Licensure Supervision
First the course work, the papers and presentations, then the thesis and the defense, and then a momentary sigh of relief and then it's time to start the supervision for licensing. As a Licensed Clinical Independent Social Worker Dr, Heuer understands the stresses involved in the licensing process. He is qualified to supervise social workers and certified to supervise Professional Counselors and Professional Clinical Counselor for licensing in Minnesota.
Dr. Heuer's commitment to his supervisees is to support them in
- finding, owning and enhancing their therapeutic style
- developing their clinical skills
- learning to consciously formulate their intentions and goals
- cultivating an awareness of the effects of culture, religion, and beliefs on their client's health.
Dr. Heuer offers his supervisees experience:
- providing psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families,
- dealing with issues of acute and chronic illness, sever mental illness, death and dying, trauma, anxiety, domestic abuse, men's issues, crisis intervention, grief and loss,
- using narrative, imagery, psychomotor and cognitive therapies,
- utilizing therapeutic techniques such as imagery, storytelling, writing and movement,
- serving diverse populations,
- working in a variety of settings including: community agencies, correctional facilities, international NGO's and telephonically.
Dr. Heuer has provided trainings for mental and medical health practitioners for NASW-MN, St. John's Stroke Center, Missouri; The Anchorage Native Medical Center, Alaska; Center for Victims of Torture, Minnesota and Liberia; and SalusWorld, Thailand; Hospice of Immanuel St. Joseph's, Minnesota; Owatonna Area Home Care & Hospice; and Fraser Child and Family Center, Minnesota. He has presented conference workshops for the University of Wisconsin Festival of Expressive Arts Therapy, International Correction Education Association, Family Therapy Network, American Imagery Institute, National Storytelling Network and the Genetic Alliance. For eight years he provided supervision for volunteers, students and interns within a crisis center.
