Counseling/Psychotherapy Services
Even in high school I knew that I wanted to be a psychotherapist. My parent's example was the inspiration for my choice of career. I saw my mother support and listen to her neighbors as they faced hard times and observed my father give a helping hand when needed. My career choice led to a masters in Pastoral Psychology, a doctorate in ministry and a license as an Independent Clinical Social Worker in July of 1991.
I provide caring and competent solution focused counseling for children, individuals, couples and families facing life's challenges. My commitment is to assist you in learning the skills you need to effectively navigate the obstacles that are in the way of reaching your personal hopes and goals.
With 35 years of education and experience I use my counseling skills to help you:
- reduce anxiety, stress and panic attacks,
- heal the difficulties found in relationships and family life,
- adjust to life changing events such as divorce, career change,
- support your child in surmounting personal challenges
- overcome the effects of trauma from abuse, accidents, violence,
- deal with serious and chronic illness including end of life issues,
- cope with the grief from the loss of loved ones, jobs and health.
I am a Licensed Clinical Independent Social Worker with two master degrees including a Masters of Arts in Pastoral Psychology and a doctorate with a focus on men's psychology and spirituality. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic methods and have received ongoing professional training in psychomotor therapy, imagery, narrative, crisis intervention and trauma. Further training and work in the arts and storytelling brings a unique quality to my psychotherapy that broadens my understanding of what it means to be human. I have presented workshops and trainings on narrative, trauma and a variety of mental health topics for mental and medical health professionals in the United States, Liberia and Thailand. Experience with diverse groups has taught me the importance of being conscious of and sensitive to cultural difference.
